An incompletely defaced 1968 San Francisco Lincoln cent obverse die. The mint defaces dies when they are done with them to avoid unauthorized use. Newer ones I've seen have been completely defaced with a grinding wheel but this 42 year old one has been defaced with welding equipment and has retained devices including part of the date, mintmark, lower left corner of the bust and a couple of letters of the motto. Serial number S1137
